I-TEC

Modern technology and medicine have done so much good, providing us with things like eyeglasses for people with poor eyesight and HAM radios to communicate over long distances. However, too often when programs bring these benefits to isolated people groups, dependency on outsiders for continued involvement becomes an issue.

I-TEC is a non profit, Christian organization that both evangelizes and creates and distributes resources and programs to train indigenous people in things like basic dentistry, engine repair, medicine, carpentry, etc. and help them regain their independence in a rapidly changing world.

Also, it's worth noting that the founder Steve Saint's mission approach is considerably less culturally intrusive than many more traditional evangelical approaches. He grew up as a kid in a missionary family deep in the jungles of Ecuador and as a result has a lot of insight into how healthy churches work in another culture.
